Who we are

The youth and young-adult community of Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church in downtown Toronto.

About us

A group built around a parish

ROCOR Toronto Youth Group is a non-profit youth organization at Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church — a parish of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia, in the Canadian Diocese, serving downtown Toronto from Henry Street.

We exist for a straightforward reason: keeping the faith on your own is hard, and much easier beside people your own age who are trying to do the same. So we meet every second Thursday, we serve, we travel, and we spend a great deal of time eating together.

You do not need a Russian surname, fluent Church Slavonic, or a long church background to belong here. Come once and see for yourself.

Our mission

What we are here to do

ROCOR Toronto Youth Group is a non-profit organization that supports young Orthodox Christians in the Greater Toronto Area — in their faith, in their learning, and in their service to other people. We are based at Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church, we are open to anyone of student and young-adult age, and we are run entirely by volunteers.

Our programs

Everything we run is free to attend. Youth meetings every second Thursday for prayer, a talk and a shared meal; Church Slavonic lessons with Fr. George; pilgrimages and retreats outside the city; service days at the parish; and 3 Bean Coffee Co., the coffee corner our young people run at the parish.

What drives us

Six things we actually care about

Not slogans — these are what the group actually spends its time on.

Prayer

Everything starts and ends with prayer. We pray together at every meeting and keep each other in prayer in between.

Friendship

Real friendships rather than a programme. Most of us met here and now see each other well beyond Thursday evenings.

Learning

We ask our questions out loud. Nothing about the faith is treated as too obvious or too awkward to raise.

Service

Faith shows itself in work. We cook, carry, clean and collect wherever the parish or the city needs it.

We take part in the services themselves — singing on the kliros, reading, and serving in the altar.

Welcome

Nobody is examined at the door. Come Orthodox, curious or unsure, and you will be treated the same.

The church stands on Henry Street, just off College and University, and has served Toronto’s Russian Orthodox community for generations. Services are held on Saturday evenings and Sunday mornings, and the clergy are there for confession, questions and advice.
